Q And A With Author Olivia London

Olivia London's brand new book, San Francisco Lovin', has hit the erotica world - and our readers - like nothing else!  To find out a bit more about Olivia, and what she may have in store for us in the future, we sat down to ask her a few questions:

Q: Why do you write the type of book you are best known for?

A: It’s a healthy outlet for me.  Also, erotic fiction can function at a commendable level; it doesn’t have to just be escapist fun, though escapist literature certainly holds its own on the shelf.

Q: Where do you get your ideas?

A: It’s easy to start feeling isolated when you commit to a full-time writing career.  I cherish the time I spend with friends who are writers themselves and great culture-consuming sieves.  Reading is essential.  I set a goal to read a certain number of pages every day with literary fiction being a priority.  Everything I read gets filtered through an erotic imagination; I consider myself lucky this way.  Not always, but mostly.

Q: How and when do you write?

A: I do my reading and library research during the day.  When I get home, I make a pot of coffee and get to work.

Q: What do you like most about being an author?

A: Meeting deadlines gives me a sense of accomplishment.  I’ve never been much of a gadabout so I actually like spending time alone in order to reach other people.

Q: What is your advice to beginning writers?

A: I once spent hundreds of dollars to attend a writers’ conference and the agent I was supposed to meet didn’t bother to show.  No apology, nothing.  I got absolutely nothing out of attending that conference.  My advice to beginning writers?  Don’t worry about the business end for a long, long time.  Focus on your craft.  Eventually, editors and other writing professionals will start approaching you.

Q: Is there anything you would like to say to your fans?

A: Thanks for reading!  I love hearing from readers so don’t hesitate to share your thoughts.

Q: What can your readers look forward to from you in the future?

A: A sequel to San Francisco Lovin’ of course!

Olivia London lives in Seattle where she drinks a lot of coffee and eschews most vices, preferring to live farouche on the page. She is the author of the story collection San Francisco Lovin' and is currently working on other erotic collections.  Ms. London has contributed to numerous anthologies including the following available through Xcitebooks: Lesbian Love 3, The Bad Girl's Sweet Kiss, Wanton Women and Healthy Addictions.

Excerpt From San Francisco Lovin:

For the Lust of an Irishman

Claire didn’t know what living was before moving to San Francisco, a city where it’s permissible to be sex crazy so long as you elevate your proclivities to an art form.  She reveled in the world’s embrace every time she walked down Columbus Street in North Beach, San Francisco’s ode to the Italian community, aware of how almost every head turned to appreciate her ample curves, gams like a double-crossing moll’s and pouty pinup allure.  She was rushing to meet with Liam, a gem of an Irishman she met on a business trip, when she remembered a casual reference he made to garter belts, and how happy it made him when meeting a woman both confident and sexy.  She ran back to her flivver precariously parked in an alley and snatched a lovely accoutrement from her glove compartment.  Not caring who was looking, she trussed her upper thigh with the delectable trimming.  He was waiting for her in a café next to her favorite bookstore. He was even more handsome than she remembered, his affable abundance towering over one of the Carrara styled tables for two.  “I took the liberty of ordering you a cappuccino, love.”  She was hoping for more liberties than that.

  1. There's something sexual about the San Francisco Bridge, no other bridge has that aura of sexuality about it, at least to me. Good luck with your new novel, hope it goes far ;)
